Philae Temple Egypt

Who we are

Poynton Ancient Egypt Society (previously Poynton Egypt Group) started in September 1993 when a group of local people in Cheshire decided to get together and meet up to share their interest in Ancient Egypt

Since those days, the society has grown from strength to strength, and has a regular membership of people from far and wide. We hold meetings once a month, usually on the fourth Friday of the month (apart from December, July and August and where public holiday dates allow).

Over the years, our members have heard a wide variety of lectures, given by many different speakers. We also have arranged trips to several local and national museums for our members.

Some members have been to Egypt, often many times, although we don’t organise trips to Egypt ourselves.

We have strong links with the Macclesfield Museum which has a proud heritage of Egyptology in Cheshire.

Some like to go to see places in Egypt slightly off the main tourist routes, perhaps on the recommendation of previous speakers, or even to meet speakers whilst they are working in Egypt themselves, if they are conducting field work there at the time of the visit.

We enjoy links with other local Egyptological societies and are always keen to hear from other groups, and welcome their members to visit our meetings.
